We continue with the series on the parables, this time a short passage from Matthew 13:31–33. Likening the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed and yeast. I’m having a great time doing some research into how his hearers understood mustard seeds and yeast! It’s not what you think! So many of Jesus’ writings are so radical, but because we don’t hear them in the same context, we don’t really realize it, until someone does some research! I’ve been preaching since 1998, and this is the first time I’ve come across this information! You’ll have to come on Sunday if you want to hear more!
It’s also Red Dress Day, so if you have a red dress, please wear it, or a red top. You can also bring a red dress in and we’ll hang it in the sanctuary.
I’m finally feeling almost myself after almost 3 weeks, not 100% yet, but getting there. You may have noticed there was no Midweek Message last week, I couldn’t even summon up the energy (or the brain power) to do that. All I did was respond to urgent emails and phone calls.
My Week
Sunday – After leading worship, in the afternoon, I posted my monologue to the website and Facebook page, created Facebook posts from it and scheduled them for the upcoming week and did some reading and research for the coming Sunday.
Monday – I created the bulletin, writing the liturgy, choosing the hymns, etc. did some work for the Association of United Church Clergy in my role as treasurer and did some more reading.
Tuesday – I spent a bit of time at the Food Bank, met with the HRM Clergy Cluster over lunch, and made a start on my reflection in the afternoon.
Wednesday – I’m writing this! 😉 It’s Wellness Wednesday, so I spent some time over lunch connecting with folks. I have to make a couple of stops to pick up some things for Sunday worship. I spent a LOT of time on the phone today! It was my turn to do the Spiritual Reflection for United Churches for Dartmouth.
Thursday – Time to work some more on my reflection! I’ve started uploading photos to the website on a monthly basis, you can find them HERE.
In between, there are LOTS of interactions with people from the congregation and wider community. Lots of phone calls and emails to respond to.
I’m spotting joy so many times during the week I hope you are too!
