St. James in Transition

In 2022 it was determined that our church would enter into a time of Intentional Interim Ministry.  A Transition Team from within the congregation was selected along with a regional representative, the Rev. Wendy Kean.

Goals were formulated and approved by the Official Board: to reacquaint us with how the United Church works; acquire and strengthen decision making skills and processes; develop a communication strategy; heal divisions; and renew and revitalize the congregation.

Rev. Catherine MacDonald was interviewed, selected and joined us in January 2023. She and the Transition Team have been extremely active in these first few months.

  1. Listening Circles have been organized and all available spaces have been
filled. The data collected at these will be used as future directions are
    considered.
  2. De-cluttering and reorganizing have begun in many spaces.
  3. We are currently working on a communication strategy.
  4. We are planning a Leadership Dinner for the Transition Team and various
leaders in the church; this will be a night of fellowship and learning.
  5. A four person Task Group has been formed to look at our governance model and consider if there is another model that would work better for us..
  6. A Behavioural Covenant is being developed.
  7. Members of the Transition Team will be attending the ‘ReVITALize Halifax’ Conference at St. Andrew’s United Church, Halifax in early June.
