Midweek Message – December 3

Worship this week: It’s the SECOND week of Advent! We light the candle of peace. The scripture reading is Luke 1: 26-38 and you will once again encounter Mary! The choir has a piece to share and Joan Clark is bringing in a nativity to speak about. It’s shaping up to be a great Sunday! Would you like to be next? Or do you have one to bring it to display? Lynne Travers brought one in this week, it’s on the communion table.

Here is the Moderator’s Advent Message.

I took Monday off… after working 7 days straight! This is also ministry…

December is always extra busy… however with this renovation, things are BUSY! Tuesday morning I found out that I needed to relocate my office to the new space, except that there isn’t a door on that office yet, so no way to secure my belongings. After some discussion it was decided that I would take the resources I needed to work at home, move the rest, and a sheet of plywood would be nailed across the entrance in order to secure it. The move took ALL of Tuesday; I’m not sure how many times I went up and down those stairs.

Wednesday – My plan to work at home was foiled by a power outage! So I headed to the church and spent most of the morning creating a variety of promotional material for all the upcoming events and updating the website. I remembered at some point that I was supposed to do the Spiritual Reflection for United Churches or Dartmouth, so thought about that for a while, made a video and uploaded it. At lunch time, I participated in Pause, Pray, Disrupt: Advent Vigil for Palestine; you can watch the recording below. Then I finalized the bulletin, and worked on the Christmas Eve bulletins.

Thursday – I will sign the Christmas letters; I like to spend some time praying for each person as I sign my name. I’ll create the Leaders Copy of the bulletin, and also an Order of Service for the comital of Robert Bell on Sunday afternoon. I’ll pop into the church for my piano lesson that I missed in the chaos of Tuesday. I’ve committed to playing in church one Sunday before Christmas! Eek!

And of course, on Saturday, I’ll be at Christmas Magic for a while.

And somehow another week wraps up really quickly… of course, that doesn’t count the phone calls, discussions with Cathy, conversations, texts and emails that are just part and parcel of ministry.
