St. James United Church has been sponsoring a Scouts Canada group, 1st Dartmouth,
since 1915. Over this time period membership in scouts has risen and declined but the
support provided by St. James has been steadfast.
The scout programing provided at 1st Dartmouth consists of Beavers aged 5-7, Cubs
aged 8-10, Scouts aged 11-14, and Ventures ages 15-17. All sections follow the
Canadian Path where the direction of the programing is done by the youth. They set
their goals, create plans to achieve their goals, all in an effort to provide personal
development.
Scouting at 1st Dartmouth holds to the values of integrity, respect, care and belief. Our
goal to is provide and environment for the youth that will allow them to develop into fine
citizens. Our team of strong and dedicated scouters have provided a scouting program
that has allowed it to endure through the tough years of covid-19. If you or your child is interested in joining please contact the church office.
In the last number of years 1st Dartmouth has chosen to lend support to the Halifax
Christmas Daddies telethon. We do this via a Pancake Breakfast hosted, prepared and
served by the scout youth and their scouters. This breakfast is enjoyed by parents,
former scouters and members of the St James United Church congregation, making this
event a true team effort. We have a youth volunteer present a cheque of the proceeds
to the charity. Check out some recent pictures!
