Midweek Message – April 1, 2026

It’s Easter Sunday, but first we have to travel through Maundy Thursday and Good Friday! Easter Sunday and the resurrection lose their power unless they come out on the other side of death. The text I’m focusing on this Easter is Matthew 28: 1-10 and I was struck by the words the angel said: Do not be afraid! They are the same words that the angel chorus said to the shepherds in the field announcing Jesus’ birth! So, we have life and death and life again. Joy and fear and joy! That’s all I’ve got so far! The choir has been working on a piece and we have Graham Doyle back to sing once again!

The ecumenical Good Friday service is at Victoria Road Baptist Church on Friday @ 10:00 am.

Our Moderator always has wise words to share.

My week has been extremely varied! Pastoral visits, lots of phone calls and emails, a debrief with the national church about my trip, (they had given each of the 4 UCC participants some funding towards the cost) with the expectation that we will write an blog for the national website, so trying to make start on that.

My colleagues and I often say that ministry is NEVER boring and that it calls us to develop and use skills that we never imagined we would need when we were first ordained. I can honestly say that I have NEVER had a boring day in ministry. Frustrating, yes. Days when I wanted to pull my hair out, yes. Days when I had to dig deep and remember that God called me into this vocation and that God would see me through whatever challenges I face. Most of the time, I absolutely love being a minister and these days I’m very conscious that I have less than 3 months left with you.

For those of you who don’t know, I have decided to take a break at the end of my time with you, I’m not retiring, but I’m not actively looking for anything at the moment. After a decade of Intentional Interim Ministry, which is the most demanding and the most rewarding ministry I have done, I need some breathing space. So, I’m going to wait and see what God has in store for me!
