We mark African Heritage Month once again this week with stories from Nova Scotia Black Communities. The scripture passages are Jeremiah 29:4–7, 11 & Galatians 3: 26-29. I’m exploring some of the shameful past, as well as the resilience and hope demonstrated by people of African descent. And wondering what can we learn from their experience about how to live with joy under the spectre of world events.
Don’t forget about the Lunch and Learn following worship on Sunday. It will take place in the gym. I know there is at least one pot of soup and one dessert being made. Subject: What Does Your Minister Do All Day?
It’s a quieter week for me, although the emails about the congregational vote on Sunday have been numerous, but somehow my desk is messier than ever!
In just 16 more days I head to Kenya with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, not that I’m counting or anything! We had our final prep Zoom meeting yesterday, where we met with some of the World Council of Churches staff in Nairobi, who will be accompanying us. I’ve had a PILE of vaccines and have been trying to learn Swahili. It’s a very different language, and probably all I’ll manage is hello and good to meet you! I’ll look forward to sharing some of my experiences when I get back.
