Midweek Message – November 12, 2025

The renovations are coming along, the offices should be ready for painting very soon. The first picture is where I’ll be hanging my hat for the remainder of my time with you and the second is where you will find Cathy. Isn’t that a great built in unit, you may not be able to tell from the photo, but the top is made from one of the pews. It will be a nice, bright space to work in. Underneath all that brown paper that is on the floor is new flooring. The minister’s office is nice and bright too, I must have taken the picture without a light on.

Worship – We wrap up the Theological Banquet this week by exploring the Evangelical stream of the United Church. The word ‘evangelical’ has sort of got a bad rap, because the most well-known evangelists are often ones who preach on TV and plead for your donations to support God’s work, then buy a fancy house or a private jet. Or it conjures up visions of being asked to go door to door talking about Jesus. The scripture is John 3: 1-17 & 1 Peter 3: 15, 16, one of my colleagues, has the passage from 1 Peter at the bottom of his email.

One of the things I hadn’t anticipated in this sale and renovation, is how many decisions, large and small, are necessary. And all of them need consultation with someone or someones! Or emails. Or meetings. However, so far, we are still in good humour. 😉

The Study Group that was exploring the Theological Banquet in more depth finished up today; we did an interesting exercise where we took a look at our website through the lenses of all the streams. What did our website say about us without words and what was it missing.

I popped in on Workshop Wednesday where most folks were deep into making a quilted bag under the direction of Marilyn Harrison.

Last Sunday, after worship (and a Worship Committee Meeting!), some of us headed to Oakwood Terrace to lead worship for the residents. They particularly enjoyed the choir and it was great to have their support along with Dean’s. Some folks connected with people from St. James who now live there.
