Midweek Message – June 19, 2025

I’m a day late… between trying to take some of the hours that are owed to me and trying to get ready to go on vacation… I’m a bit behind on my regular tasks.

Worship this week is the last in our series of Who Are the People in the Neighbourhood, with Elder Debbie Eisan from the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre coming to speak. We will also mark Indigenous Day of Prayer, so it’s fitting that Elder Debbie will be with us. Indigenous Day of Prayer, the Sunday before National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21), is an opportunity to celebrate First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples’ values, customs, languages, and culture. The scripture readings are Matthew 13:1‒9 & Matthew 5:14‒16 and my reflection is entitled Light and Life.

If you’re interested in exploring more about Indigenous culture etc. there are a couple of things that are coming up: A Mi’Kmaw Introductory Language Course, sign up by June 30th! It’s free!

Indigenous Education Press is a First Nations owned publishing company located on the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Indigenous Education Press publishes stories by well-known and new Indigenous Authors. All stories from the Authors are brought to life through Indigenous Illustrators, Designers and Artists. I’m reading North of Nowhere by Marie Wilson; she was one of the Truth and Reconciliation commissioners; I went to a reading by her in Sackville, NB before the annual meeting and was captivated, some of it may make it into my reflection on Sunday.

Wednesday evening, the Leadership Team (and Dale Hudson) met with David Hewitt, Regional Pastoral Relations Minister and Bev Dauphinee, Faith Stories and Covenant Committee member, representing the Future Directions Committee, regarding our request to sell the hall and renovate the church building. We had a full and frank discussion and will expect their report shortly.

For weeks now, every time I walked past the bulletin board, I thought, “I need to change those photos…” They are now changed!
