Midweek Message – April 9, 2025

It’s Palm Sunday, as Jesus heads to Jerusalem and ultimately his death. The choir has been working on an anthem called Breathe, Listen and Notice and I’ve written an interactive service in three movements around those themes: Breathe, Listen and Notice.

Following worship we’ll enjoy a soup lunch and hear from the Property Committee about the work they have been doing on our behalf with regards to the hall; it’s potential sale and renovation of the church building. This will be your opportunity to ask questions and provide input; the Chair of the Regional Property Committee will be on hand to answer any questions that neither the Property Committee or I can answer.

My Week

United in Faith – I created the bulletin and PowerPoint, and put together what we needed for worship on Sunday, along with updating the website, scheduling the daily Facebook posts, as well as thinking up something to put on the sign, which then Joyce does! I have almost finalized the Easter Sunday bulletin. We had the last session of How We Learn to Be Brave.

Strengthened By Friendship – I made a number of pastoral phone calls to check in on people, and connected a community volunteer with the yard sale organizers.

Building a Community of Love and Justice – Tonight, the United Churches for Dartmouth group are meeting, I wish we had an answer back on our grant application regarding raised beds and a community picnic as our UCC 100th Anniversary projects. Tomorrow, I’m meeting with a staff person from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank; you might remember that I participated in Hunger on the Hill last October through the CFB.

Other Things That Are Going On – I met with the Property Committee as they finalized their plans for the presentation on Sunday and also had some conversation with the Chair of the Regional Property Committee. I had some regional responsibilities with the Association of United Church Ministers and also will participate in a consultation for the Atlantic School of Theology on the future of theological education.

We’ve been hearing a lot about ‘Elbows Up’ and even though I would have loved to play hockey as a child but wasn’t allowed to because I was a girl, something about the phrase kept getting under my skin and Interim Executive Director of Kairos, Leah Reesor-Keller articulated it well for me. You can read what she had to say HERE.

Don’t forget about the Candidates Forum at Christ Church! I have many things to say about the election, but I’m going to write them on my own website. 😉
