We are celebrating our 197th anniversary this week and our speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Heather McCance, President of the Atlantic School of Theology. The choir has a piece prepared and I believe Joan is making cupcakes for coffee time afterwards! The scripture readings are: Jeremiah 36:1-8, 21-23, 27-28; 31:31- 34, they are about covenant.
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes hear comments about how churches freeload on communities because we don’t pay taxes… which is true, we don’t property tax like a business or homeowner. We DO provide significant benefit, both economic and social to our communities though! Congregations That Make a Difference in Their Community is another FREE webinar hosted by the Flourishing Congregations Institute – Friday, Nov. 29 at 4 p.m. Mike Wood Daly, President and Principal Research Associate at Sphaera Research/Halo Canada, presents data on how Canadian congregations generate measurable economic impact through everyday actions, programs and expressions of faith. Hear how our churches – small or large – enrich our neighbourhoods. It is based on his research on the “Halo Effect”. The 60-minute webinar is interactive: research presentation, Q&A, and (optional) small group discussion. REGISTER: https://flourishingcongregations.org/chu…/upcoming-events/
As the Transition Team has discussed children and church and the new research regarding integrating them into the entire worshipping community, we are removing a couple of pews either this week or next in order to provide some space for older children within the sanctuary. There is a Continuing Education course at The Atlantic School of Theology called The Intergenerating Church, if you are interested in participating with me (it’s via Zoom) please let me know. We’ll find the funds somehow.
Canada Must Not Undermine the United Nation’s Work in the Middle East: The United Church of Canada calls on the Canadian government to reconsider its decision to cancel a meeting with United Nations Special Rapporteur Dr. Francesca Albanese. The United Church also urges condemnation of attacks against her and support for her work investigating human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Here’s a sneak peak at the main logo for our Advent and Christmas series. Words for the Beginning is our theme and we will listen to words we need to hear again and again. Words that speak of blessing, hope, and dreams. We will bring together words, music, and visual arts to carry us into the days of Advent and Christmas. There are a variety of ways we will engage with the series, stay tuned!
