Midweek Message – October 9

Is it Wednesday again already? 😉

Scripture – 1 Samuel 1:1-18 – Hannah’s story of supplication to God for a son.

Reflection – What If?

Questions that have been rolling around in my brain:

  • Does God answer prayer?
  • What if we imagined the world that God imagined Could we create it?

What I’ve been up to this week!

Monday – It started with a Zoom Call, well, actually a Microsoft Teams call, with members of the Property Committee, HRM, Halifax Water, and the architect about the proposed changes to the intersection of Alderney/Prince Albert and Portland and how they will affect/impact us. This was followed by doing some sermon prep, creating the bulletin, some Advent and Christmas planning and a start on my Minister’s Report for the upcoming Official Board Meeting. In the evening I participated in a Zoom call for Hunger on the Hill, my upcoming Continuing Education event with Canada Foodgrains.

Tuesday – I met with Debra and Joan over breakfast to review, evaluate and finalize plans for the next Seniors Wellness Wednesday, has a very brief meeting with Cathy, took a look at the proposed changes to our new governance, planned for an art project to complement our Advent theme, prepared for, set up and led ‘Tuesday Pause. ‘

Wednesday – Met with Dean about Advent; I’m really excited about a Christmas Music event we’re planning, perhaps with participation from Accent Music and Ekko Mindful Music. Met with Joyce about the proposed governance changes, then met with Grace UC and Stairs UC, along with representatives from those congregations, to further the discussion about how our three churches can best serve the community.

Thursday – Hopefully I’ll get the Power Points done first thing in the morning, then I’m meeting with some of the Stewards regarding budgeting for next year, then a couple of on-line meeting to do with the regional work I’m involved with.

In between, there are multiple conversations, phone calls, emails and so on.

And did I tell you that I was foolish enough to host some of my extended family for Thanksgiving on Sunday? 😉

I appreciated this statement from the United Church of Canada: Prayers and Action for Palestine and Israel
