Monday was National Day for Truth and Reconciliation; a holiday for many people. I try not to think of it as a holiday, but more as a day set aside to learn some more about Indigenous History and present day realities. So, while I spent some time in the morning at my computer, working on worship material for Contemplative Service on Tuesday, at noon I headed over to Halifax via the ferry, walked the waterfront to Pier 21, where there were Indigenous displays, along with dancing and drumming. I bought an Every Child Matters flag that I’ll find somewhere to hang in the church.

Scripture is Exodus 32: 1-14; it’s the story of the Golden Calf.
Reflection – Every Child Matters – No, that’s not a mistake. 😉 In pondering the reading, it seems to me that when Moses was up the mountain for so long, the people began to be afraid, and like fearful people everywhere, they did things to alleviate their fear. We do that too… We sacrifice children, perhaps not our own, but other people’s through our action and inaction. So where is the hope in this passage and where on earth am I going? You’ll have to come Sunday to find out!
We will also celebrate World Communion Sunday with a Breads of the World liturgy, which will highlight a variety of breads and the people they represent. World Communion Sunday is the Sunday in the year when all the Christian churches that don’t celebrate weekly communion, celebrate it, so we are literally communing with all the people who follow Jesus.
Tuesday – Food Bank in the morning, worked away at the bulletin, choosing hymns is always a joy and challenge! Set up for the Contemplative Service and led that.
Wednesday – Met with the Chair of the Faith Story and Covenant Committee via Zoom, met with Cathy, wrote a report for the Future Directions Committee in preparation for the Division of Ministry Resources meeting tomorrow, finished off the bulletin and communion liturgy.
Thursday – I’ve got the Division of Ministry Resources Meeting in the morning; I’ll have to get the Power Points done, as well as the Leaders Copy the bulletin and write a short reflection, which, believe it or not, is harder to write than a long one!
Phone and email have been coming in and out fast and furious this week! The church phone line is down and you aren’t able to leave a message, but internet is still working.
