Midweek Message – September 18

My Backyard…

Worship this week continues our focus on creation; this week fauna. Considering my love/hate relationship with deer lately… 😉

Scripture: Psalm 104: 1-2, 10-24

Right now, I’m imagining a dialogue between science and faith, about creation and the animals.

My Week:

Monday – Doing sermon prep, bulletin prep, starting my reflection for Yvonne Bannerman’s memorial service on Saturday, dealt with some regional Future Directions Committee matters, created the event for the upcoming Contemplative Service on October 2nd.

Tuesday – Food Bank, wrote a letter to my MP about world hunger for an upcoming Hunger on the Hill event that I’m participating in, did some more sermon prep, finalized my reflection for Saturday. Met with Kym Burke and Stephen Fram in the afternoon to talk about how we might best serve the Downtown and North Dartmouth Communities and support each other in ministry. Hopefully finish off my prep for the Art as a Spiritual Practice session I’m leading at the overnight retreat that I’m going to on Sunday with the Association of United Church Clergy.

Wednesday – I’m chairing the all day planning meeting of the Future Directions Committee for the region at Cole Harbour Woodside United Church. It’s now almost 5:30, I don’t have anything written for Sunday yet…

Thursday – I have a Zoom meeting first thing in the morning with the AST Continuing Education Committee; we recommend continuing education for lay and ordained people, I’m looking forward to hearing whether a couple of the ideas I proposed last spring have born fruit and will go forward. I have to create the Power Points, my ‘Leaders Copy’ of the bulletin, delivered some more posters, , make arrangements for food for the Senior’s Wellness Wednesday and then this evening is Opening Night of The Laramie Project. I’m in the show Thursdays and Fridays of each week… it’s a very small part, but I was surprisingly nervous at the dress rehearsal. I may get something started for Sunday.

With Yvonne’s service on Saturday, it’s not a day off for me this week, so I’ll be taking the following Monday instead, barring any emergencies.

Are We Clutching at Straws? Jan Edmiston, as usual, has wise and challenging words for us.
