September 11th will likely always have a poignancy to those of us who remember the skies going silent, whether we were glued to our TVs or deliberately stayed away from them, not wanting the images burned into our eyeballs. It’s a day that the aftermath has been memorialized in Come From Away. It’s one of those things that most of us remember where we were when we heard the news. I was on our mid-morning chapel break at the Atlantic School of Theology when I heard the news and I confess that I first thought that the person who told me must be wrong. It became very apparent as the day unfolded that it was me who was wrong. It’s a reminder how we are all connected.
Just like all of creation, we are not separated from it, but part of it.
Worship this week continues our series on Creation, this time with an emphasis on the ocean.
Scripture is Job 38: 1-18, which at first may seem like an odd choice, but it is one of the creation stories.
Reflection – Who Are You?
The reading this week me imagining God like an aggressive reporter questioning Job. You remember Job, the guy that had it all, but lost it all. God askes Job all kinds of pointed questions. They are also questions that God could ask of us. Stay tuned!
My week is somewhat lighter than last week and I’m not doing anything to make it heavier! I took some posters around for Wellness Wednesday and the Contemplative Service and had great chats with folks at those places. ‘Who are the people in your neighbourhood?” 😉 There have been quite a few people looking for grocery gift cards, a sure sign that some of our neighbours are feeling the stress of providing enough food for themselves and their families.
I had my first piano lesson of the year and one of things I’m being challenged to do is play in front of groups of people; I don’t think I’m ready to play in church, but who knows?
A couple of articles I came across and found interesting. While this article focuses on how people become Christian, it has wisdom about people about how people start attending church. Crib notes: PERSONAL INVITATION!
And this one, by Debie Thomas, about the death of the institutional church is profound. You can read it HERE:
I sent out a separate email regarding The Laramie Project; I hope you can show our support for this joint venture by attending and/or volunteering. You can purchase tickets on-line HERE. or at the door.
