Midweek Message – August 28

Worship – This is the last week of our Reel Theology Series: Connecting Faith and Film This week I’m reflecting on the movie The Glass Castle. The scripture passages are Galatians 5: 1, 13, 14, Romans 8: 18, 22, 23, and John 8: 31, 34-36; the title of my reflection is Families and How to Survive Them!

So, this week didn’t unfold at all like I planned! On Saturday I received a call from Mattatall’s Funeral Home, asking if I could do a graveside service on Tuesday morning for someone with no church connection, of course I said yes. So… on Sunday after church, and posting my reflection and creating the social media posts and scheduling them, I went to visit with the family.

Monday – I did some work on the bulletin, and then as I was having lunch, I received a call from Parkland, asking if I could come in and have prayers with the family of Margaret Teasdale who had just died, which of course I did. I also put together the graveside service.

Tuesday – I led the graveside, on my way there, I received a call that the mother of the Wanda Chair of the Board at Grace had died, and called her, finished off the bulletin, worked on my reflection, and then picked up my youngest granddaughter for a couple of hours!

Wednesday – Created the Power Points, started working on the Creation Time Series that is starting next week, did some research to develop a Congregational Vitality Checklist for use by the Future Directions Committee of the region. I then met with the family of Margaret Teasdale. Her service is going to be here at St. James next Thursday morning @ 11:00 am. Another rehearsal with the Dartmouth players this evening! In fact, I’m finishing this off while the rehearsal is going on.

Thursday – Most of my day is tied up with some regional work with a church in the valley, although I hope to get my reflection written in my head on my drive.

A colleague posted this video and I really appreciate his words on omnipotence and amipotence!
