Midweek Message – August 8

How can it be midweek already?

Worship: We continue our Reel Theology Series this week with the movie The Grand Seduction: To survive, a dying Newfoundland fishing village must convince a young doctor to take up residence by any means necessary. The small harbor of Tickle Cove is in dire need of a doctor so that the town can land a contract to secure a factory which will save the town from financial ruin. Village resident Murray French (Gleeson) leads the search, and when he finds Dr. Paul Lewis (Kitsch) he employs – along with the whole town – tactics to seduce the doctor to stay permanently. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2319580/plotsummary/ You can watch it on Netflix.

Questions I am pondering:

  • How does this crisis unite the people of Tickle Cove?
  • Do the ends justify the means?
  • What examples do we have in the Bible of trickery?

Find out on Sunday!

We also have the service at Oakwood Terrace this Sunday at 2:30; all of you are welcome to come join and help lead the singing.

Some of you may know that Joan Clark, Debra Keays-White and I applied for a Community Health Grant to start something we are calling (at the present time) Wellness Wednesdays. Wellness for mind, body, and spirit. We have received the funding!!! Stay tuned for more details about this monthly gathering that is focused on seniors in our community. This is one of the things that came out of the Listening Circles.
