Midweek Message – May 8

Worship this week is led by Jackie Clark, the theme is Family and Faith and you are invited to bring a picture in of your family of origin or your chosen family.

Monday/Tuesday I spent putting the finishing touches on the workshops I’m leading at the Annual Meeting, as well as preparing for the Grief Group that meets on Wednesday morning. On Monday evening I sat in on the monthly board meeting of Dartmouth Players. I’m both terrified and excited that they wanted to know if I would play the part of the priest (at least for some of the shows) in the fall production of The Laramie Project. This is a production that St. James and Dartmouth Players is presenting jointly.

I recognize that it’s the height of privilege to have a TV that you have no use for… so, while I’m not gifting it St. James, I have purchased a stand and my husband assembled it for me. This can be used to show anything we used to project on the wall during meetings. In the same way as the TV screens in the sanctuary are much clearer than using the screen, so will this be. I’m not sure where the best place is for it to live while not in use… it’s a bit big for my office.

Wednesday morning is the Grief Group and then I’m taking the afternoon off.

Thursday I leave for the Regional Annual Meeting, taking place in Truro at the Agricultural College; the theme is Rooted in Faith: Growing in Leadership. I have several responsibilities: I’m leading a session on Clergy Wellness for the Association of United Church Clergy Thursday afternoon, in my role as Chair of the Future Directions Committee, I’m presenting to the full court on Friday evening, hopefully some folks will still be paying attention, then on Saturday afternoon, I’m leading a workshop in that same capacity. Sunday morning is the Celebration of Ministry Service, as the new ministers make their promises, I often look upon it as an opportunity to reflect on those same promises I made at ordination. On May 30th, it will be 20 years for me.

Looking ahead to summer! It may seem early to think about worship in August, but I only have two more Sundays with you before I go on Study Leave/Vacation at the end of May. I’m going to do a series called Reel Theology: Connecting Movies and Scripture. I’ve already chosen two of them: Maudie and Peace by Chocolate, but I’m open to suggestions.

Don’t forget to wear red, yellow or orange on May 19th when we will celebrate Pentecost!
