Remit 1, Category 3: The United Church of Canada has proposed the development of an autonomous National Indigenous Organization within the United Church of Canada. Motion: We voted yes on Remit 1
- Facilities:
• Video System Upgrade: Our system upgrade quote is $10,876. Before the instillation we will need to upgrade electricals in the sanctuary, a quote of $2176. Our Facilities Innovation Grant of $7500 covers 60% of this cost. Motion: that we proceed with the electrical work and video installation as per the quotes.
• The Property Committee: A recent backup of our sewer line caused some flooding. Fortunately, the problem was noticed quickly, a plumber identified the cause and the blockage was cleared without lasting floor damage.
• Office Computer, Management System: The office computer is old with outdated software, which causes problems with ordinary usage, security, coordination and communication. Motion: that we research and acquire proper computer hardware and software for the office, up to a cost of $2000. - In addition, we discussed:
- An event for the homeless in January hosted by a group of downtown businesses, and whether to support them by supplying a meal (in conjunction with the food bank).
- Rental of the sanctuary by a TV production crew on Dec 20.
- Ekko Music’s December Charity Concert in support of N.S. Mental Health Assoc. Motion: that we offer our sanctuary to Ekko Music free of charge.
The date of the next OB meeting is Tues. Feb 20, 2024, 6:30 pm.
The Annual Meeting will take place Sunday March 3, 2024, during morning worship. Rev. Catherine introduced a format that includes both; this ensures greater participation and transparency.
