Midweek Message – February 14

Happy Valentine’s Day and first day of Lent! Ash Wednesday. I am reminded of a quote by Henry David Thoreau: “There is no remedy for love but to love more.” On a day that celebrates love of all kinds and a day where we are reminded of our mortality, we can be assured that love is present, even if we can’t always sense or perceive it. Even if it feels like gritty ashes on our foreheads, love is present in the grittiness of our lives.

This Sunday marks the beginning of our Lenten Series: The Marks of Discipleship. This week we will be exploring Discernment: Saying Yes and Saying No. The scripture is Mark 10: 17-31, the story of the rich, young man who went away grieving from the abundant life that Jesus offered him because he was so attached to his possessions.

I’m back to work today, although working from home as my street didn’t get plowed till early afternoon. The drawbacks and benefits of living on a dead-end, unpaved, private lane!

Listening Circles – Join the Transition Team and me following worship as we explore new church paradigms, look at some demographic data around our church and explore which ideas/projects you brainstormed last fall to adopt and roll out.  Lunch provided!

Below are a couple of articles I found interesting.
