Midweek Message – January 17

We start a new sermon series this week: Atomic Church! I assure you, I’m not planning on blowing anything up! I read Atomic Habits a couple of years ago and was captivated by James Clear’s idea of making tiny, incremental changes, that over the long run, can yield big results. Atoms are the smallest building blocks of matter. So often we want amazing results immediately and overlook what creating tiny, incremental changes over time can accomplish. As soon as I read it, it made sense for churchland; so as we explore the gospel of Mark 2: 1-22, we will also look at how our identity shapes our habits and our habits shape our identity. We will also ponder what habits we want to foster and which ones we want to eliminate.

I was down with a migraine for all of Monday, and much of Tuesday, although I worked from home some on Tuesday, at least getting the bulletin ready, so am feeling rushed and a bit frantic today.

It was my turn to post a Spiritual Reflection on the United Churches for Dartmouth FB page today, it’s also on ours, it’s all about Star Words. If you haven’t got one yet, they will be on the communion table until the end of the month. I met with Rev. Shaun Friday about the possibility of him doing an in-depth session on Communication and Conflict with us as a follow up to the session that the Rev. Dr. Susan MacAlpine-Gillis did with us last May. I chaired a meeting of the Future Directions Committee for the region this afternoon.

Thursday I’ve got a meeting with Jackie Clark to work on reestablishing regular counting and depositing procedures for the offering, I have a telephone meeting with the Rev. Dr. Ross Bartlett about the possibility of him doing a ‘midterm’ review of the Intentional Interim Ministry with the congregation and then in the afternoon I’m meeting with a couple of folks from the Dartmouth Players to see if there is a possibility of us collaborating on an event for the community.

All of this, along with multiple emails, a few phone calls and much time on the computer… It appears that I will be working Friday this week…
