Midweek Message – October 5

A day long meeting of the Future Directions Committee of the Region followed by a Transition Team meeting last night prevented me from getting to my usual Wednesday timetable.

Worship this week is Thankful for Commandments? Familiar texts to many of us, the 10 commandments. Questions I am pondering:

  • Do these commandments still have relevance?
  • Does ‘thou shalt not’ stir up feelings of rebellion in you? Only me? 😉
  • How can we be thankful for them?

We will see how all of that shakes out by Sunday!

Linda McLaren is our special guest speaker from Grandmothers to Grandmothers this week, they meet each month in the parlour and it seemed like a good idea to share something of the good work they do with the congregation. There will be a beautiful quilt on display at the Findlay Centre on October 11, 1-4 pm, make sure you get out to see it.

I try and get outside at lunch time if it’s a nice day and I continually revel in what I discover. One of the advantages of moving from church to church every few years is always having a new neighbourhood to explore. On Tuesday, I walked over to Starr Park and Dartmouth Marine Railway ( I didn’t even know that little park had its own name… ) and was fascinated by the history of how goods were moved from Dartmouth Cove and was delighted to discover St. James UC on the map about that process.

Cathy is away till next Thursday, celebrating her son’s wedding in Washington, so if nobody answers the phone, or responds to your email, you know why. And any mistakes in the bulletin and announcements are my fault.
