Midweek Message – June 7, 2023

A big thank you to Marilyn and Reid Harrison who are leading worship this week as Joyce Wylie and I attend the first in-person annual meeting of the region since 2019! The scripture reading is Philippians 2: 1-5 and I will look forward to watching it on-line after I come home!

Our pride flags didn’t arrive in time for the first week in June, which is Pride Month, but they are here now! And if anyone feels called to iron them, feel free!

The theme of the annual meeting is The Story of Our Discipleship and that it one of the foci of both the region and the national church; you’ll be hearing more about that in the coming year. I’m doing two workshops during the annual meeting and also acting as one of the chaplains. It seems a bit odd not to have to pack multiple pieces of clothing to be prepared for all kinds of weather in Sackville, NB; this year’s meeting is being held at Mount St. Vincent University. Congratulations to Shauna MacDonald as she is installed as president at the end of the meeting; as a past president of Maritime Conference, it’s both exciting and terrifying!

As noted in the announcements, most of the Transition Team and I are attending reVITALize Halifax this week, which is taking place at St. Andrew’s United. We look forward to sharing our learning with you in the fall.

I was invited to the Scouting Banquet last night; the gym was full of energy as children of all ages, along with their family, enjoyed supper, beavers, cubs and scouts advancing to the next group, and an awards presentation. Wilf Laybolt was thanked (in absentia) for his many years of being a group commissioner.

You remember the Core Values Workshop that we held a few weeks ago? You can read the Summary Report here. You may have noticed the tagline: ‘United by faith, strengthened by friendship, building a community of love and justice’ on the front of the bulletin last week. We will use our core values in a variety of ways to guide us as we move into the future.

A team made up of representatives from the Transition Team and the Official Board had drafted a Behavioural Covenant and is ready to present it at the next OB meeting, which will be in the fall.
